This video is why i choose the tuba
Appalachian SPRING was my Dad's favorite piece I miss him so much
I absolutely LOVE the sound of the euphonium! So warm smooth and beautiful; you have such a lovely tone and you play gorgeously. I play trumpet. I would love to learn the euphonium and another favourite, the French horn but I just don't think I'd have enough time to practice and learn another instrument and still keep up with my trumpet practice ..so, I'll just have enjoy listening. I wonder how the resonance must feel when playing a clear low tone. I bet it's quite the feeling. I bet it is similar to what I experienced once while new a very large African lion when he was making a low call and the sound from his lungs I could feel vibrate or resonate in my whole being, especially my chest. I loved learning all about the tubing, thank you. You have so much more range of octaves than the trumpet. I am hoping someday to get a good flugelhorn. Playing it would be very much like the trumpet but, with that lovely low round sound. I am blessed with many trumpets, two of which are some of the best horns made in their time. My father in law played trumpet and he gave me his favourite and several others. His favourite dates back to 1933, when this make was improved greatly and was the best trumpet of that time. In fact it is still considered one of the best. But there are not many left in pristine condition. My instrument was keep in pristine condition. It is silver and has beautiful fine etchinģ art deco design and the whole trumpet has art deco design. This trumpet is King. I also have a beautiful pristing vintage silver Couesnon. It can be changed from a Bb trumpet to a concert C trumpet. There is another very interesting vintage piece I have is what I was told is a slide trumpet but, is actually a saprano trombone. I do know where I could any information on how to play it. Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction so I could learn this cute little horn. Well, I have written too much. God bless you and again I say, your playing is an absolutely beautiful! ✝️🕊🙏🏻❤☘
J’ai acheter et travailler la partition Cor d’harmonie de ce Chef d’œuvre. J’aurai aimé l’interpréter avec un orchestre … dans une autre vie …
I went to college in Virginia near the foothills of the Appalachian Range. I studied Aaron Copland's "Appalachian Spring " in music history class. Hearing it these many years later as conducted by Santtu-Matias Rovali has been wonderful. Coincidentally I also heard part of it elsewhere on RUclips today, as the musical introduction to the CBS Reports feature on General Eisenhower and Walter Cronkite's return to Normandy Beach during the 20th anniversary of D-Day in June 1964.
So if it goes as high as a bassoon... but of course goes so much lower, why aren't all bassoonists playing the contra? Would seem to give far more options? Out is it a tonal preference issue? The contra is also harder to intonate, no? Anyway, I love the instrument. So expensive though... I'd play one if someone gave it to me! But the cost is prohibitive otherwise...
Thank you so much for sharing this! So interesting! And her movements are just gorgeous!
I once heard this whilst visiting Winchester Cathedral. An orchestra was rehearsing for a concert that evening . The whole building literally vibrated with this exquisite music. People were standing stock still and some of us were reduced to tears by the beauty of it. I have never experienced anything like it before or since that was quite as profoundly moving. THis version is simply wonderful and comes pretty close to that which I experienced in Winchester.
What a lovely memory. Thank you for sharing. We are thrilled that our performance was moving for you as well.
@@philharmonia_orchestra I should add that this recording is a piece I play often, especially after a stressful day. It brings me joy, so thank you All
What is the name of the raag which he played in introduction?
The fact that this video has more views than the violin one is really funny. Justice for the violas!!!
Thank you soooooo much! :-)
It's interesting that people talk about this 'forgotten' concerto. My dear friend Shura Cherkassky was the one who played and recorded it and brought it to the attention of the public, after it had long been forgotten. He played it remarkably (and individually - as only Shura could do!!). Now however we have many pianists play it. This is wonderful but, in my opinion, Alexandre Kantorow is the absolute king of this piece now
Why isn't the timpani there?
What a beautiful show, in the same way is wonderful surname Patel you from with India ?🥰🤗
Scotland...."Beauty, but in a darker sense of beauty."
The most modest and cutest pianist ever seen
Lovely -very interesting too. I loved the way the string section’s sound melded together, how they breathed and phrased as One … perfect! 💛
So much respect! I love the music and ofcourse the film.
One of Tchaikovsky,s greatest achievements and if this symphony was rewritten to give this powerful third movement as the finale, it would be incredible !!!!!
Thankyou
Yes, please continue these highly educational videos. Fantastic! Wonderful! Thank you!
Whoa! The devil himself would be well pleased about Pekka playing this tune so wild and beautifully! 💛
2nd timpanist is france radio orchestra timpanist.
omg @ 5:00
I suspect that the harsh negative comments here are from viewers who, like me, didn't like the conductor from a visual aspect and allowed that to color their perception of the orchestra's performance which was fine if not extraordinary.
Wow! Nice interpretation, excellent conductor and musicians, congrats!
An extraordinary violinist!! Bravo!!

Please do the trombone or bass trombone
Im going to be getting one pretty soon, I can’t wait to start!
Lovely, ignore negative comments.
What is the point in posting something recorded during the lockdown and not even conducted by Rouvali instead of something really up-to-date?
I came to this video after watching Hibike :)))
When he demonstrated the tam-tam, I couldn't help but think of Chuck Barris.
This represents our fear of the unknown
Thank you.
The dislikes are from Twoset fans
And talking about groove in classical musician’s playing: Some might, and some mightn’t have it 😉, but Santtu is right, I feel, in that all musicians should have some groove or bass n drum training. It would help our playing so much. Let’s talk more about the groove, the pocket and ‘the dance’ in playing…
Oh man, these two together are the best! How much fun, how interesting, what a lovely flow in their conversation…. 🧡🧡
Que injusto!!, en este mundo si no entendes el idioma ingles te perdes de disfrutar de un montón de cosas!!, estoy harto!!
I thought I was too uneducated to understand Debussy’s music and have to make more effort…
I cannot wait to see the performance and listen to a new virtuoso’s interpretation of the iconic piece!
We're so glad you can join us!
I hear what he's saying, yet autheniticy is always going to be the best way to go in interpreting Mahler; not to try to 'play it a certain way', but actually give an honest interpretation.
Doing my favorite piece right <3
🎷
...for one who is so quick to say that she does not wish to be viewed as a jazz musician persa, she certainly is utilising the prestige attached to some of the boggest names in this specific genre.
Would you rather i extended you to the same kindness as the escargot?
It's Luke, from Sarah Jane Adventures! Kidding, it's really George Roberts! Kidding.
LOVE THIS MUSIC! Thank you Bruce for bringing it to us! Not performed often, but I can understand why. Not easy but you nailed it!
